Roman Gladiators
The Roman Gladiators were usually trained slaves, prisoners or criminals. Most of the gladiators were men although some were women. These combats were attended by the poor, the rich to be entertained. As the gladiators fought, the audience would hear cries and curses and see blood almost everywhere around the colosseum. The Colosseum held over 50,000 viewers which were entertained by gladiator fights, navel battles, and hunts (hunts are fights where someone is to fight an animal of some kind). There were many types of gladiator ranks and fights which include, Andabata, Arbelas, Bestiarius, Bustuarius, Cestus, Equites and many more.
